General Remarks
By resolution of the Bavarian Council of Ministers, a Photovoltaic Plant was installed in the
new administration building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, expressing the innovative
attitude of the Bavarian State. In close cooperation with the Bavarian Supreme Edificial
Authority, the project work "Kühn, Bauer & Partner" and the later user, the
work group
"Energy- and Environmental Technologies", several solar facilities were planned. It was
predetermined to divide the available funds with a total sum of 1.5 Mio EUR in two photovoltaic
subplants including the Atrium Roofs (facing south) and the Southern Hall Canopy as well as
in a Solar Research Center located on the roof of the
Energetics Institute.

Photovoltaic Plant
The Photovolatic Plants are coupled to the grid and integrated into architecture. They are
comprising the Atrium Roofs as well as the Southern Hall Canopy and facilities at the
Solar Research Center. These areas are marked in the
Roof Total View. Specially manufactured solar
panels were integrated into the glass roofs of the Atrium Area, providing approximately 18 kWp
peak power under standard testing conditions.
On the southern façade of the Southern Hall, a Canopy consisting of further especially
designed solar modules was installed. Peak power of the Southern Hall Canopy is reaching
approximately 24kWp.
In both subplants (Atrium Roofs as well as the Southern Hall Canopy), three different DC/AC
converter systems can be used, allowing it to compare different system techniques. A focus in
these investigations is set on an economic and energetic assessment of these different solar
systems. Both PV plants are also equipped with a special measurement technique and are attended
by our work group. Measurement data of both subplants are recorded online and are distributed
to the information service of the faculty.
